Interview With Honors Freshman

By Lizette Najera-Perez

——

As the semester ends, we can see what we need to improve on and what has worked for us to be productive and work towards our goals. This is especially relatable and important for first year students, more specifically honor students. Since, in their first semester, they’re able to learn about what the Honors program has to offer for the students’ undergraduate experience. We can hear more about the experience and overall feelings around the first semester here at CSULB from first-year Honor’s student, Alexa Rosas.

Q: How has your first semester at university been?

A.R: It been a mix of emotions from being stressed to full of uncertainty — mostly from being thrown into this new environment that I had to adapt and adjust to. But, I have had some positive experiences as well.

Q: What has been your favorite event hosted by the Honors Program this semester?

A.R: My favorite event was also one of the first events hosted: the plushies and keychain making event. It was fun to make something I could use, and I was also able to make some connections during the event as well.

Q: How was your first honors course, if you are taking one this semester?

A.R: Going into taking the courses, my mindset was that they were going to be similar to AP classes in high school, which, to me, did turn out to be true. The classes I am currently taking are Accounting and Public speaking and compared to my other courses they are faster paced but are manageable.

Q: What has been the most challenging thing so far in University?

A.R: A big challenge has been time management, both in life and academics. From managing arriving sooner, to finding parking and still arriving at my class on time, to dividing my time into studying and doing homework for all my classes.

Q: What is something that you have been doing this semester that you will continue into the semesters to come?

A.R: One habit I have developed this first semester, and I hope to continue to use in future semesters, will be studying a couple of days in advance for exams or quizzes.
