As the Fall semester comes to a close, students might start noticing an increasing workload such as final exams and projects overlapping with the daily stresses of staying on top of deadlines. Around this time in the semester, Honors students really start feeling the mounting pressure of their classes, contributing to academic burnout or greater anxieties. If you find yourself falling into one of these categories—as I have often found myself in the past—don’t panic: CSULB offers a wide array of Academic Support Resources for a variety of student needs.
One of the most generalized resources available for CSULB students is The Learning Center (TLC). Offering both appointment and drop-in one-on-one tutoring services, TLC is an excellent resource for a variety of academic subjects. Their page on the CSULB website also offers study tips and academic coaching to help students with time management and other important skills.
Another subset of CSULB academic services is the University Writing Center (UWC). The UWC offers dedicated appointments to students, as well as workshops and events centered around multiple different aspects of successful academic writing. Similarly to TLC, their website also offers on-demand, generalized essay writing tips and other supplemental instructions to various types of professional writing.
CSULB academic services don’t stop at written assignments—there are services available to help prepare you for success in multiple different fields and forms. The Hauth Center is one such resource, offering assistance in communication skills and presentational software. They offer short, in-person consultations to assist all CSULB students and staff, alongside members of the Long Beach community at large.
There are also multiple programs across CSULB that offer tutoring on specialized fields of study. Whether you are majoring in those specific areas, or just taking a GE course that falls under that subject, CSULB’s specialized tutoring programs offer a variety of appointment schedules and tutoring times to help students with a diverse range of subject-specific assignments or questions.
And finally, CSULB hosts a range of events sponsored by different learning communities and groups. With such a varied selection, you are sure to find a workshop available to help you on your path to academic success.
As the semester finishes up and your calendar starts filling with deadlines, it's completely normal for students to feel stressed out, but with the multitude of Academic Support Services offered through CSULB it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. There are services all across campus that are here to help and encourage you, and just by reaching out and making an appointment through any of these programs you are already one step closer to success.
